GICLEE PRINT ON CANVAS

Mitre Peak in Milford Sounds is such a spiritual place. It's taken me until now to paint what I feel when I'm there.

This is a quote from "The Maori Heirs of Tane."
"The great sea-god Tu-to-Rakiwhanoa was given the task of transforming the solid mountain block of Fiordland into a habitable place. With his magic greenstone axe he began in Southern Fiordland hewing his way inland, the broken rock being thrown up to form mountains. Tu's greatest work was the sculpting of mighty Milford Sound. Here he died before be could carve out a route to the interior. A minor sea god Ruru took up the work. Succeeding on his second attempt he created what is today's Mackinnon Pass and Arthur Valley."
